COMMISSIONS Q & A

How much do you charge for a commissioned piece?

All pieces will differ in pricing, and I am happy to work with your budget. The smallest painting size I do is 6x8 inches and that starts at $300.

How long does it take you to complete a commissioned piece?

I can usually complete a commissioned painting in 2-4 weeks. The size and level of detail of the painting, as well as my personal schedule, will factor in to the time it takes. If you’re ordering one as gift and have a specific date that you will need it by then I will try to accommodate, but I can’t guarantee. Sometimes I have a bit of a wait list so it always best to plan ahead a month or more.

How do we get started? What is the process?

The process begins with the subject you want to have painted. Is it a pet? A family member? A house you grew up in? Once I know what we’re doing I’ll want to know what sort of theme you want for it. It can be serious, playful, a re-creation of a special photograph, or something completely new. Maybe your cat is riding in a train through the country, or your dog is enjoying some fine dining, or maybe it’s a distant relative relaxing in a meadow. The choice is yours, and if you’re not sure I’m always happy to be part of the brainstorm.

Once we’ve settled on an idea that suits you and your budget, I’ll ask you to send me 5 or more reference and/or inspiration photos. From there I’ll create a few sketches for you to review. There may be a few back-and-forths during this stage and that is totally okay. Once you approve the design and general direction of the painting I’ll request a $100 deposit (which will go towards the final cost) and once received I’ll get started on your painting!

Paintings will ship via USPS. If you are local in the NYC area and would like to pick it up from my studio I can usually arrange for that.

How will I receive my painting?
